Hudson Square Music & Wine Festival – the after-work backyard blowout

Hosted by: City Winery, Great Performances, Trinity Real Estate

Tuesday June 29 – 5:00 pm

For a sidetrip, Al Kooper loves to abscond from his regular band with the bassist & drummer and play the music he grew up on and learned how to play guitar as a result.

So Al locks up the keyboards for a coupla hours and parades a cavalcade of guitar-driven rockabilly anthems from his youth. Elvis (Presley), Rick Nelson, Link Wray, Buddy Holly, Jimmy Reed, Gene Vincent, Buddy Knox, Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Dale Hawkins, Bo Diddley, and on a good night Procul Harum can all be included the repertoire.

These shows are few & far between, so make sure to come on down and see Al as you haven’t seen him before. The Al Kooper Rockabilly Trio ain’t to be missed.

While New York has it’s share of wonderful outdoor music festivals in City Parks, The Hudson Square Music and Wine Festival takes place in the true Urban environment that makes New York City such a special place to live and work. The beautiful weather is here and it’s time to come out of hibernation.

Hosted by City Winery, Great Performances, Trinity Real Estate and the Hudson Square Connection.

Avenue of the Americas

Updated: Monday, May 17th, 2010

LMCC LentSpace presents a new exhibit:

May 19 – November 19, 2010

Avenue of the Americas is a site-specific sculpture exhibition, which literally sits at the gateway of Sixth Avenue, and features artists from North and South America tackling themes related to the social and political issues confronting American societies.
The exhibition features a series of new artist commissions by Julieta Aranda, Carlos Motta and David Sanin Paz, Judi Werthein, and Carla Zaccagnini.  The aim of this exhibition is to create a public showcase, which fosters an increased
understanding of and appreciation for the diverse cultural heritage of the Americas through a public art exhibition that speaks to the importance of inter-American relationships. Sixth Avenue was renamed Avenue of the Americas in 1945 by Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia (1882-1947) as a place to honor “Pan-American ideals and principles” by the creation of public monuments and plazas. Exploring an interest in communication, the four art works in Avenue of the Americas create work that utilize language, text, and iconic emblems, which create reference points for these narratives, and will stimulate visitors to explore many points of interest and engage in a continued discussion.

Additionally, 2010 marks several important anniversaries in the struggle for Argentine, Chilean, Colombian, and Mexican independence.

Updated: Friday, April 9th, 2010

Designers, manufacturers and others in the furniture industry will be flocking to New York City for the 22nd annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in May. This year – for the first time – businesses from Hudson Square will be participating as a community in the three-day event.

Hudson Square will be recognized by the Fair as one of New York City’s local furniture hot spots.  Our district is home to numerous high-end designers including Todd Hase, Ambienti Italia, George Smith, Robert Kuo, Scott Jordan Furniture, Regeneration and Wyeth.

ICFF prides itself on showcasing the best and upcoming design talent from around the world. More than 550 exhibitors will display their contemporary furniture, seating, carpet and flooring, lighting, outdoor furniture, materials, wall coverings, accessories, textiles, and kitchen and bath for residential and commercial interiors.

Hudson Square will experience its own miniature ICFF right along Spring Street as our talented designers turn their stores into showrooms and display their unique furniture creations to the public.

Hudson Square’s furniture designers will also be hosting ICFF events on Monday, May 17th.  Come and enjoy wine, cheese and more at Todd Hase, Ambienti Italia, George Smith and Robert Kuo.
