As the Hudson Square Connection celebrates its first year as the voice for the district, we’re sounding out about our creative neighborhood.  And what better way to do that than with music! From the dulcet tones of WXQR and the Jazz Gallery to the Latin beat of SOB’s, Hudson Square has an eclectic rhythm all its own.

With the warm weather upon us, we’re all looking for opportunities to be out and about.  So, we wanted to highlight the live music in the district as a fun way to unwind after work.  Each week this summer City Winery, Don Hill's, The Greene Space, The Jazz Gallery, Mae Mae Café, PJ Charlton, and SOB's will host performances to accomodate just about any schedule.  Get the details further ahead in the newsletter.

Where sound and innovation converge you’ll find WNYC’s Radiolab.  We talked with co-creator Jad Abumrad who revealed a surprising fact about his neighbors here in Hudson Square.  Find out what that is in the interview below.

Ever hear a commercial on television or the radio and have the jingle playing in your mind later that day?  Chances are it was the work of Hudson Square-based music production company PULL. Find out below which commercials Scott Brittingham and Mitch Davis gave musical life to.

And the music doesn’t stop when the heat cools down.  Hudson Square is home to some of the most talented and forward-thinking music companies in the city - so music flows here all year round. What do Interpol and Vampire weekend have in common with Hudson Square?  Read below to find out.

Thank you to everyone who has helped the Hudson Square Connection have a great first year.  We appreciate your support – and participation – in establishing the district and look forward to working together over the next year.

Till next time,
Ellen Baer, President

Musical Notes Fill Hudson Square This Summer

Hudson  Square will be alive with the sounds of music all summer long!

City Winery has uncorked their second annual Hudson Square Music and Wine Festival, taking place every Tuesday at 5pm, starting June 29. This year's roster of performers is sure to satisfy all musical tastes - featuring bands that play rock, indie folk, gospel, swamp funk, hip-hop and more.

Festival-goers can enjoy these musical stylings while savoring food from Great Performances and sipping wine and beer from City Winery. The Music and Wine Festival will run through August 10th and will take place in the parking lot between Varick, Spring, Hudson and Vandam Streets.

LentSpace will be hosting a world premiere! July 7 (and again on July 8) renowned choreographer Yoshiko Chuma fuses live music, dance, text and performance into a unique multidisciplinary work, set to a newly commissioned score from composer John King.

Looking to enjoy some music away from the bustle of the summer streets? Mae Mae Café will be keeping their doors open until 10pm on Wednesday nights for live jazz performances. PJ Charlton will also be serving live music alongside their delicious meals on Thursday evenings, and every Sunday SOB's hosts their Bossa Nova brunch - a neighborhood tradition.
