The Chris Bergson Band brings their “gut-busting, horn-bedecked NY blues” (MOJO) to The Loft at City Winery on Monday, June 17th celebrating the release of their new DVD + CD, Live in Normandy featuring acclaimed soul singer Ellis Hooks. The band includes saxophonist Michael Blake (Lounge Lizards), trumpeter Reggie Pittman (Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band), organist Craig Dreyer (Dispatch), bassist Matt Clohesy (Patti Austin) and drummer Tony Mason (Amy Helm.) They will be performing additional music from the Chris Bergson Band’s Bitter Midnight CD, which was named one of MOJO’s Top 3 Blues Albums of 2017 .
Hailed by MOJO Magazine as “the NY street poet with a blues soul,” Chris Bergson was inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame in February 2015. With MOJO Magazine’s #1 Blues Album of 2008, Fall Changes (recorded at Levon Helm’s studio in Woodstock, NY), #2 Blues Album of 2011, Imitate the Sun, #3 Blues Album of 2014 and #3 Blues Album of 2017, Bitter Midnight, New York guitarist/singer Chris Bergson has established himself as “one of the most inventive songwriters in modern blues music.” (All Music Guide.) Chris Bergson has performed with Levon Helm, Hubert Sumlin, Norah Jones, John Hammond and Little Sammy Davis as well as jazz legends Annie Ross and drummer Al Foster (Miles Davis) and opened for B.B. King, Etta James and Bettye LaVette, to name just a few.
