Film Forum Presents: BLIND WILLOW, SLEEPING WOMAN

April 14 - 20, 2023 - Multiple entries: 12:20, 2:30, 4:40, 6:50, 9:00

Author Haruki Murakami’s portrayal of contemporary Japan is characterized by a huge talking frog, a sly cat, lonesome ineffective men, and existential doubt. Ordinary and psychedelic narratives cleverly intertwine in these adaptations of Murakami’s stories, many of which were previously published in The New Yorker, which were brought to the big screen in animated form by Pierre Földes (using a cutting-edge live-action 3D motion capture process). Each protagonist travels across emotional and physical distances, fantasy and memory, in search of deeper human connection. The outcome is a sophisticated, whimsical, and unsettling encounter.
