The third genius of silent comedy, Harold Lloyd (1893–1971), produced more pictures than both Chaplin and Buster Keaton combined, outperformed them both financially, and, in terms of jokes and laughter, “few people have equalled him and nobody has ever beaten him.” (James Agee). The legendary “thrill pictures” of Lloyd, better known as “the Man on the Clock,” were merely a tiny portion of an extraordinary career.
