MY ARCHITECT, which was nominated for an Academy Award and garnered rave reviews when it debuted at Film Forum nearly 20 years ago, has undergone a new restoration. Many architectural scholars believe that Louis Kahn, who passed away alone and insolvent in 1974 in Pennsylvania Station in New York City, was the most significant builder of the second half of the 20th century. His brilliant legacy includes incredibly potent and spiritual structures made of geometric arrangements of brick, concrete, and light that, in the words of the Los Angeles Times, “change your life.” Kahn’s shocking passing exposed a complicated personal life filled with lies and broken promises: he lived a triple existence, not a double life. He had two non-marital children by two women, with whom he had kept long-term relationships, in addition to his wife and daughter.
