SOB’s Presents: Chase Shakur

November 2, 2023 - Doors open @7PM

Chase Shakur’s concept is both straightforward and endlessly grandiose. Simply put, the Atlanta-born performer wishes to alter the sound of R&B. The gifted singer-songwriter defies genre signifiers on his latest CD, “It’s Not You, It’s Me,” to create a unique world. Shakur synthesizes the South’s musical history—hip-hop, funk, soul, pop, and R&B—into a forward-thinking sound firmly anchored in Black culture. The new album follows his critically praised 2022 release, “It’ll Be Fine,” and is a captivating reflection on living after a bad relationship. In “It’s Not You, It’s Me,” vulnerability coexists with toughened scars, resulting in a piece that casts Shakur as steely and eager to learn from his mistakes.
