~ A theater group called The Civilians produces ambitious, vivacious new plays that imaginatively explore our everyday lives. The Civilians’ “Liveness: A Performance Made From The WNYC Archives” is the second performance of their engagement. In the course of the evening, different interview voices will be channeled by various performers. The initial recordings were made when WNYC broadcast 90 minutes of impromptu conversations with radical poets and experimental filmmakers, interspersed with awkward pauses and the sounds of playing kids. Through the eyes of some of its most famous artists, a picture of New York City in the 1970s is revealed. The voices of a bygone period are brought to life by The Civilians, who evoke the works of art and the city they created in all of its gritty, human detail.
