January 11, 2023 - 7:00pm - 8:00pm
ALSO AVAILABLE ON LIVE STREAM
Join artist Marisa Morán Jahn aka Aphrodite, goddess of love and copper, and other special guests who answer your questions about relationships, betrayals, or revelations (bodily or terrestrial).
You’ll hear from experts whose work depends on copper and hear about how copper has been used in reproductive technology for oh, at least the past few millennia. You just might find yourself smitten with this mineral’s “electrowinning” superpowers that humans have harnessed for the past 10,000 years — so bring your copper IUD.
Accompanying the evening is an installation created by artist Marisa Morán Jahn and MIT architect Rafi Segal entitled Gifts of Earth and Extimacy. This installation imagines that Aphrodite, goddess of love and copper, has bestowed us three “gifts” that extend our digital, corporeal and libidinal selves. Each gift is a different copper-based device used to regulate and enable desire from antiquity to the present.
