She fuses elements of her southern roots, hip-hop, classical, jazz, and R&B into a style that is almost percussive and uniquely her own. She has been seen all over New York City in venues such as the MoMa, The Blue Note, Brooklyn Museum, and more. She has also been affiliated with projects for Lil Kim, Cartoon Network, Essence Fest, Halle Berry, Karen Civil, and more.

Aziza & the Cure is a musical marriage led by wife and husband, Joelle and River Rouen. Violinist, vocalist, and bassist, Joelle was born and raised in Harlem, New York. Multi-instrumentalist, producer, and poet, River was born and bred in New Orleans, Louisiana. They met at NYU and things got steamy 😉 – Stirring influences from Classical, Hip Hop, Caribbean, and Latin music traditions, Aziza & the Cure serves up a deeply rooted brew of original music that industry veteran, Larry Devivo, calls “timeless ear candy.”
Bri Black, and Aziza & the Cure are part of the Reconnect Series. Hudson Square has partnered with IAH Studio to curate Thursday evenings in June, featuring stringed musicians of color. The Reconnect series features music and an outdoor art gallery/studio on Tuesdays from 12:30pm-2pm and Thursdays from 6pm-7pm, on Little 6th Avenue and Dominick Street.
