Hudson Square BID is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Planning Intern to assist in projects related to improving and maintaining the public realm. This internship provides a unique opportunity for a passionate individual to gain hands-on experience in urban planning, environmental studies, and economic development. Candidates must work in person at least 3 days/week (with the option of full-time available) at our office in Lower Manhattan.
Compensation: $20/hr
Dates: Mid-May – August 2024 (some flexibility dependent on candidate’s schedule)
Responsibilities:
The essential priorities of this position are:
– Participating in field investigations, on-site observation and analysis, or public programming events.
– Participating in research activities in support of a number of planning projects including but not limited to tree health evaluation, public space usage, and neighborhood historical research.
– Other project support as needed.
Qualifications:
– Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program (Urban Planning/Studies, Public Administration, Environmental Studies, or related field).
– Strong organizational and research skills with a keen attention to detail.
– Team player, flexible in stepping in to help various divisions when needed.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– General understanding of MS Excel, Word, and Adobe Creative Suite.
– Curious and high-performing person who seeks to learn from others both in and out of the office.
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
– Interest in urban planning, community development, and environmental sustainability.
