On this year’s Midsommar, KABIN, a modern and seductive Nordic cocktail bar inspired by the natural beauty of traditional Norwegian hyttes (cabins) and Scandinavian cocktail culture, opens in New York City’s Hudson Square neighborhood. First-time bar owner Alex Tangen draws inspiration from her Norwegian upbringing and vacations at her family cabins in Lillesand and Lillehammer to create KABIN, blending Scandinavian minimalism with the convivial spirit of her favorite British pubs and the sophistication of Manhattan’s vibrant cocktail scene. The bar interiors showcase the work of Swedish interior architect Jeanette Didon, who used a selection of sustainably-sourced red and white oak paired with modern raw steel detailing and dramatic branch-like light fixtures handcrafted in Sweden and Holland to blur the lines between the indoors and the outdoors. KABIN’s cocktail program, developed by mixology creatives Pamela Wiznitzer and Eloy Pacheco, spotlights Scandinavian ingredients such as sea buckthorn and lingonberry and focuses on spirits like aquavits, vodkas, and gins. KABIN also offers a menu of comforting Nordic staples curated by chef Johnny Spero including pickled mackerel, Swedish meatballs, and oysters. KABIN will be open Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 4pm-12am and Friday through Saturday from 4pm-1am.
