A Message from NYC Department of Sanitation:
“Now that the NYC Foam Ban is being fully enforced by DSNY, DOHMH, and DCA, we would like to take this opportunity to provide you with some additional information that you can share with constituents, other businesses, and may help your business avoid violations.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Starting July 1, 2019, New York City establishments found in violation of the NYC Foam Ban will receive fines. NYC stores, food service establishments, and mobile food commissaries may no longer offer, sell or possess single-use foam food containers such as foam takeout clamshells, cups, plates, bowls, trays, and coolers. Additionally, manufacturers, distributors, and stores may no longer sell or offer for sale loose fill foam packaging (“packing peanuts”) in the city. For more information, visit nyc.gov/foamban.
Affected establishments must make the switch to alternative products. Small businesses not part of a chain with less than $500,000 in gross income for the most recent tax year and non‐profit corporations may apply for hardship exemptions from the Department of Small Business Services. For more information, visit nyc.gov/foamwaiver.
Visit nyc.gov/dsnybusinessresources to access free educational materials, attend a training, and request a site visit. Email questions to commercialprograms@dsny.nyc.gov.
Please help DSNY spread the word about this new regulation by sharing our social media posts from @NYCzerowaste and @NYCSanitation, using #foambannyc and #foamfreenyc and alerting your business contacts via newsletter using the language above.
