The Hudson Square Business Improvement District (HSBID), in partnership with Ponte Equities, is excited to announce an open call for NYC-based artists to create a large-scale public mural at the corner of Spring and Greenwich Streets in Manhattan’s Hudson Square neighborhood.
About the Project:
We’re seeking an artist or artist team to design and install a mural on a one-story corner building — transforming a once-iconic cultural site into a vibrant, catalytic work of art. The mural will be part of Hudson Square Canvas, our ongoing public art program designed to activate and beautify our public spaces with large-scale, original artworks.
Key Details:
- Award: $25,000 (inclusive of design, materials, labor, and equipment)
- Deadline to Apply: March 14, 2025, by 5:00 PM EST
- Installation Period: Spring 2025
We want designs that:
- Stand Out – Bold, colorful, and inviting
- Inspire – Cheerful, welcoming, and uplifting themes continuing the evolvement of Hudson Square’s identity
- Connect – Reflect the site’s context and interact with the public realm
The Site:
This mural will wrap the entire façade of 511 Greenwich Street, a historic building once home to the legendary Don Hill’s rock club. Located at the crossroads of two major pedestrian routes, this site is poised to become a focal point for residents, workers, and visitors alike.
How to Apply
Interested artists should submit their proposal by March 14, 2025, at 5:00 PM EST to PublicArt@HudsonSquareBID.org with “Greenwich & Spring Mural Open Call” in the subject line.

Q&A
- Q: Will you be providing any wall prep in advance of the artist’s installation work given the current condition of the wall?
A: Yes, HSBID plans to remove existing posters and power wash the façade in advance of the artist’s work. - Q: Are you accepting proposals from organizations or artist collectives?
A: Yes, we are seeking an artist or artist team, and the call doesn’t have any requirements that the mural be created by just one artist. As a whole, the installation should have a cohesive theme and narrative.
