The City has created several programs that enable streets to be temporarily closed to vehicles, and reimagined for the benefit of people.
The Open Streets program closes the street to non-essential vehicles, allowing pedestrians and bicyclists to safely use the roadbeds and maintain physical distancing.
The Open Culture program allows arts and cultural institutions from around the City to secure a permit for socially distanced performances on designated City streets.
Two of our streets have been designated as BOTH Open Streets and Open Culture locations:
- Little Sixth Avenue between Spring and Dominick Street
- Dominick Street between Little Sixth Avenue and Varick Street
Summer of 2021 these streets came to life with dance, music and art.
